The main research focus of my lab includes the roles of sphingolipid metabolism/lipid signaling on cancer pathogenesis and the development of novel therapeutics against newly identified players in different leukemias, primarily Ph+ Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and FLT3+ Acute Myeloid Leukemia. I am also interested in understanding how some phenolic compounds exert their effects as chemopreventive/chemotherapeutic agents at the molecular level. Current two ongoing projects in my research lab include investigating the antileukemic action mechanisms of certain polyphenols together with genetic or pharmacological targeting of key regulators in sphingolipid pathway. Therefore, finding new combination therapies is the major purpose in these projects which include both in vitro (cell lines) and ex vivo (patient samples) studies. The development of drug resistant clones and understanding the molecular mechanisms resulting in chemotherapy resistance is another area we are interested in. Therefore, we are mainly focused on identifying new cellular or molecular targets in order to contribute cancer therapy.
